Discover the best places to capture enchanting sunsets on the Costa Rossa.
The sense of freedom and peace that a beach holiday offers stays in the mind for years. The beauty of nature, the intense light of the sun, amidst the scents of Mediterranean essences and the sound of the waves. Days to be spent outdoors from morning until evening, when the sun slowly disappears into the sea. That’s why we’ve decided to recommend some places on the north-west coast of Sardinia where you can capture beautiful postcard-worthy sunsets. A natural spectacle that makes the Costa Rossa unique, in the municipality of Trinità d’Agultu e Vignola, so named for the characteristic colour of the rocks, which seem to catch fire at sunset.
The Most Loved Sunsets by Sports Enthusiasts: Between Hiking and Water Sports
Our journey to discover the most beautiful sunsets of northern Sardinia starts from La Marinedda beach, a crescent of fine, light sand in front of the Hotel Marinedda Thalasso & SPA. Here during the day, the pastel colour of the sand merges with the thousand shades of blue. At sunset, the sky acquires warm and intense hues, while the red rocks of Punta Li Canneddi frame the bay and become one with the sky. Surfers are well aware of this, particularly loving this spot for riding the waves and enchanting with their difficult acrobatics.

From this wonderful postcard that is La Marinedda beach begins a panoramic route that we strongly recommend to trekking enthusiasts. Dirt roads wind through the vegetation that populates the granite promontories of Punta Li Canneddi and Tinnari. Among ancient junipers, mastic trees, and white and pink rock roses, you might encounter wildlife such as hares, foxes, and tortoises, until you reach the wonderful Cala Tinnari, a must-visit spot for those who love to immortalize wild beaches. If you have time left and are still in full strength, from Cala Tinnari starts the so-called Hermit’s Path which ends at Li Cossi beach, another of the most beautiful coves of the Costa Rossa.
The Sunset at Isola Rossa: A Spectacle of Nature
When talking about sunsets in Gallura, one cannot forget Isola Rossa, a characteristic fishing village in the municipality of Trinità d’Agultu. You could choose to watch it from the beachfront where the village overlooks, Spiaggia Longa (Blue Flag with La Marinedda beach since 2017), perhaps with the salt still on your skin or while swimming among the play of light at sunset. Or, choose one of the lively and bustling bars on the seafront, to meet the locals and learn about their habits. For solitary spirits, our advice is to reach the small hill located on the north side of the village. In front of one of the most characteristic sceneries of Sardinia, the Aragonese tower rises on a red cliff and overlooks a distant islet, also red. It is precisely after this latter that Isola Rossa is named.

A panorama also visible from the nearby Hotel Torreruja Thalasso & SPA. Perfect for those evenings when you prefer to stay in the hotel but don’t want to miss a special moment. Even better when accompanied by an aperitif before dinner. The Aragonese tower turns red as the pool, the sea, and the sky blend together, creating a masterpiece.
In Badesi for a stroll along semi-deserted beach stretches
For those in Badesi, our advice is to stay on the beach and enjoy one of the most romantic walks of your life at sunset. A very long beachfront starts from Li Feruli beach in the municipality of Trinità d’Agultu, continues with the beaches of Li Mindi, Li Junchi, and Baia delle Mimose in the municipality of Badesi, and ends with the beach of San Pietro a Mare in the municipality of Valledoria. As you gaze at the sky on a beach that stretches for a full 12 kilometres, the meaning of the phrase “to touch the sky with a finger” becomes immediately clear.
In front of Li Junchi beach, which has been flying the Blue Flag for years, there is the Resort & SPA Le Dune. There is nothing better than enjoying the sunset from the Beach Restaurant, while savouring appetisers, Mediterranean first courses, specialties of fresh pasta and seafood fry, accompanied by an excellent local DOCG Vermentino.
