From August 8 to 16, the thirty-first edition of the international music festival Time in Jazz returns—one of Sardinia’s most eagerly awaited summer music events.
Paolo Fresu celebrates the thirty-first edition of the Time in Jazz festival, once again bringing together the best national and international artists in Northern Sardinia for a unique event that attracts thousands of people from around the world each year.
From August 8 to 16, the small village of Berchidda, at the foot of Mount Limbara, will again be the main hub of the festival, featuring 14 performances over 9 days, along with many side events.
On August 9, the stage in Piazza del Popolo will kick things off with an all-female duet featuring violinist Leila Shirvani and cellist Asja Valcic. The same stage will also host numerous internationally renowned artists and rising stars of jazz: Stefano Tamborrino Seacup, Lumină (a project by Paolo Fresu with five musicians under 30), Gianluca Petrella, and Italian jazz icon Enrico Rava. The evening of Ferragosto (August 15) will feature the music of another standout jazz trumpeter: Steve Coleman & Five Elements.
As is tradition, the festival will mainly unfold among the most evocative locations of the inland and coastal areas—from San Teodoro to Olbia, from Bortigiadas to Posada.
After a big preview on Tuesday, August 7 in Sassari with Greta Panettieri, the festival’s first act will be marked by the young pianist William Greco among the beautiful granite formations of southern Mount Limbara.

A packed lineup also gives space to young talents such as Berchidda’s own drummer Giovanni Gaias, who will perform on August 8 at 12:00 in front of the monumental Nuraghe Albucciu in Arzachena—just ten minutes from Resort Cala di Falco in Cannigione and twenty minutes from Hotel Capo d’Orso and Hotel Cala di Lepre in Palau.
Another fascinating archaeological site will serve as the setting for bassist Gabriele Evangelista’s performance on August 9 at 6:00 PM, where he will play with other creative musicians in the Sa Mandra Manna area of Tula.
On the morning of August 10, a solo piano concert by Jan Lundgren will take place at the historic railway station in Tempio Pausania, an inland town just 30 minutes from Hotel Marinedda and Hotel Torreruja.
That same day, those arriving in Sardinia on the daytime ferry from Livorno to Golfo Aranci will be welcomed with the lively sounds of the Fanfaraï Big Band.
For nine days, melodies will echo through 18th-century church squares, ancient archaeological sites, and small villages, featuring young artists such as Alessandro Paternesi, Bernardo Guerra, Carla Casarano, and major names on the national and international scene like Dhafer Youssef and Luca Bulgarelli.
The final day of the festival, August 16, will see Paolo Fresu officially close Time in Jazz at 7:00 PM in the spectacular setting of the San Teodoro lagoon, accompanied by Dhafer Youssef’s oud.
Once again, this year’s edition will spotlight environmental commitment with Green Jazz, an awareness campaign aimed at reducing the festival’s impact on the environment and local natural resources.
If you’re spending your holidays by the sea in Gallura, Time in Jazz is a must-see event in Sardinia. Alongside its music program, the festival will also feature visual art installations, exhibitions, and documentaries.
